\n\nCome hear out youngest string students perform a variety of repertoire
in their chamber music groups. There is no doubt that they will impress y
ou! AFA Middle School Strings students attend two weeks of intensive study
in both chamber music groups and orchestras under the Houston area's best
string teachers.\nAmerican Festival for the Arts (AFA) was founded in 199
3 by Houston composer J. Todd Frazier to provide accessible\, high-quality
music education and performance opportunities for youth and to broaden th
e audience for both new American works and the standard classical music re
pertory.\nTo achieve its mission\, AFA presents an annual Summer Music Con
servatory and Concert Series. This unique and acclaimed community-based mu
sic education program\, featuring faculty members drawn from the nations'
finest educators\, performers\, composers and conductors\, has become reco
gnized as an important annual event in the cultural life of Southeast Texa
s and as a model for similar programs around the nation. A rigorous curric
ulum that includes large and small ensemble performance\, music theory/enr
ichment classes and private lessons forms the core of AFA's orchestra\, ja
zz\, choir\, piano and composition departments.\nThe Conservatory is an in
spiring\, life changing experience for its students. In 2008\, AFA's thirt
eenth Summer Music Conservatory enrolled 332 students from 109 elementary\
, middle and senior high schools. AFA presented twenty-one free concerts t
o thousands of area music lovers featuring more American works and world p
