 or the Arts) presents an AFA (American Festival for the Arts) Student Cham
 ber Music Recital.   AFA students from the Orchestra/Chamber Music and Pia
 no departments join together in this three-concert series featuring chambe
 r music ensembles. Works from all eras showcase the subtleties and intrica
 cies of chamber music by AFA wind\, brass\, string and piano students.\nTh
 e AFA Orchestra/Chamber Music and Piano programs are five week intensive p
 rograms for Houston-area high school students.\nAmerican Festival for the 
 Arts (AFA) was founded in 1993 by Houston composer J. Todd Frazier to prov
 ide accessible\, high-quality music education and performance opportunitie
 s for youth and to broaden the audience for both new American works and th
 e standard classical music repertory.\nTo achieve its mission\, AFA presen
 ts an annual Summer Music Conservatory and Concert Series. This unique and
  acclaimed community-based music education program\, featuring faculty mem
 bers drawn from the nations' finest educators\, performers\, composers and
  conductors\, has become recognized as an important annual event in the cu
 ltural life of Southeast Texas and as a model for similar programs around 
 the nation. A rigorous curriculum that includes large and small ensemble p
 erformance\, music theory/enrichment classes and private lessons forms the
  core of AFA's orchestra\, jazz\, choir\, piano and composition department
 s.\nThe Conservatory is an inspiring\, life changing experience for its st
 udents. In 2008\, AFA's thirteenth Summer Music Conservatory enrolled 332 
 students from 109 elementary\, middle and senior high schools. AFA present
 ed twenty-one free concerts to thousands of area music lovers featuring mo
 re American works and world premieres than any other area presenter. More 
 than three out of every five students received tuition assistance from the
