 cert.\nJoin the Conservatory Orchestra in its' final performance of the se
 ason at Houston Baptist University's beautiful new Dunham Theater. Conduct
 or Jeffrey Grogan (New Jersey Symphony)\, returning for his second season 
 at AFA\, will lead the orchestra in Dana Wilson's 'Shortcut Home' and Shos
 takovich's popular Symphony No. 5 in D Minor. The 2009 AFA Concerto Compet
 ition winners will also perform.\nGenerously Underwritten by Omnibank\, N.
 A.\nAmerican Festival for the Arts (AFA) was founded in 1993 by Houston co
 mposer J. Todd Frazier to provide accessible\, high-quality music educatio
 n and performance opportunities for youth and to broaden the audience for 
 both new American works and the standard classical music repertory.\nTo ac
 hieve its mission\, AFA presents an annual Summer Music Conservatory and C
 oncert Series. This unique and acclaimed community-based music education p
 rogram\, featuring faculty members drawn from the nations' finest educator
 s\, performers\, composers and conductors\, has become recognized as an im
 portant annual event in the cultural life of Southeast Texas and as a mode
 l for similar programs around the nation. A rigorous curriculum that inclu
 des large and small ensemble performance\, music theory/enrichment classes
  and private lessons forms the core of AFA's orchestra\, jazz\, choir\, pi
 ano and composition departments.\nThe Conservatory is an inspiring\, life 
 changing experience for its students. In 2008\, AFA's thirteenth Summer Mu
 sic Conservatory enrolled 332 students from 109 elementary\, middle and se
 nior high schools. AFA presented twenty-one free concerts to thousands of 
 area music lovers featuring more American works and world premieres than a
 ny other area presenter. More than three out of every five students receiv
 ed tuition assistance from the AFA Scholarship Enrichment Fund.\n\nStart t
