DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Visit Bayou Bend=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artshound.com/event/detail/2238=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2006-01-01=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2037-01-01=0D=0A=0D=0ABayou Bend, the beautiful house with the romantic name, was designed as a private residence for Miss Hogg and her brothers, Will and Mike. Although the house was not built until 1928, the room settings faithfully re-create interiors from previous eras. =0D=0A==0D=0A=Miss Hogg donated Bayou Bend to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1957, with the understanding that it would be converted into a house museum. Over the next decade, rooms that once served Miss Hogg's personal needs were transformed into period settings to showcase her superb collection. Although the house opened to the public in 1966, Miss Hogg continued avidly to collect for her beloved Bayou Bend until her death in 1975 at the age of 93. =0D=0A==0D=0A=The Bayou Bend Collection is one of the nation's foremost assemblages of American decorative arts dating from 1620 through 1870. Not only are the objects in the collection fine examples of American design and craftsmanship, but they also reflect the tastes, values, and aspirations of ordinary Americans. Today, the collection fulfills Miss Hogg's dream that 'Bayou Bend may serve as a bridge to bring us closer to the heart of an American heritage which unites us.'=0D=0A==0D=0A=The Bayou Bend Gardens were originally, in Miss Hogg's words, 'nothing but a dense thicket.' Undaunted, she created gracious and beautiful gardens that were intended to be outdoor rooms for living and entertaining, not just views to be admired from within the house. But Miss Hogg was also appreciative of the wilder side of nature, and her desire was that the surrounding woodlands remain more or less natural, as they are today.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:Guided Home Tours (Reservations Required)=0D=0A=Tues-Fri 10am-11:30am=0D=0A=Tues-Fri 1pm-2:45pm=0D=0A=Sat 10am-11:15am=0D=0A==0D=0A=90-minute tours offered every 15 minutes. =0D=0A==0D=0A=Note: Guided tours are not available during the month of August=0D=0A==0D=0A=Self-Guided Audio Home Tours =0D=0A=Sat-Sun 1pm-5pm=0D=0A=Last admission, 3:30pm =0D=0A==0D=0A=Note: In August Self-Guided tours are available for the first floor only. =0D=0A=Special August Hours =0D=0A=Sundays 1pm-5pm =0D=0A=Tues-Sat 10am-5pm=0D=0A==0D=0A=Self-Guided Garden Tours=0D=0A=Tues-Sat 10am-5pm=0D=0A=Sun 1pm-5pm=0D=0A=Last admission 4pm
