DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Bon Voyage=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artshound.com/event/detail/26875=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2009-07-01=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2009-08-03=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Artists' Alliance of Sugar Land presents the exhibition Bon Voyage, &nbsp;journey of life brush painting exhibition by local artist Lim Chung. =0D=0A=Bon Voyage =0D=0A=a poem by Lim=0D=0A=Chung Feb 27th, 2009=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Every piece of my work is a journey,=0D=0A=A journey that has no beginning nor ending,=0D=0A=&ldquo;Mobius strip&rdquo; may explain this&hellip;&hellip;&hellip;&hellip;&hellip;=0D=0A=Or may I say the word &ldquo;gene&rdquo;?=0D=0A=A gene from my Father.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=I love travelling&hellip;&hellip;..=0D=0A=Travel on a journey into the past, present and future.=0D=0A=I travelled into the past by books, music, arts and etc.=0D=0A=Via different transportations and my five senses, I see the present.=0D=0A=Through history and experiences, I visualize the future.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=When I was very young,=0D=0A=I flied to China to pick up the four treasures of the study,=0D=0A=And tried to write and draw like literati.=0D=0A=With the brush and ink in monotone,=0D=0A=I wrote phrases from great philosophers.=0D=0A=Confucius had a lot of advice for me to be a good person.=0D=0A=Taoism taught me &ldquo;To remain whole, be twisted;=0D=0A=To become straight, let yourself be bent;=0D=0A=And to become full, be hollow.&rdquo;=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Calligrapher Master Liu told me my calligraphy need to have bone and flesh.=0D=0A=Most of the traditional brush painting artists had something in common&hellip;.=0D=0A=They were very wise men during their time.=0D=0A=But how come their paintings did not have perspective=0D=0A=And always floated on the air?=0D=0A=Travel beyond the time and space (????) was the answer.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=The multi-culture in the Southeast Asia hinted to me that=0D=0A=There were people with different skin color living on the other side of the globe.=0D=0A=Yet, we had one thing in common,=0D=0A=We were all attracted towards the center of the sphere.=0D=0A=A picture came into my mind,=0D=0A=Lot of colorful push pins pinned into a highly textured ball.=0D=0A==0D=0A=When I was a teenager,=0D=0A=I sailed my boat to Europe&hellip;&hellip;=0D=0A=I open my eyes to colors, light source, values, proportions and etc.=0D=0A=I finally understood the works of Michelangelo after I turned myself to Lord.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Rembrandt told me brush could be used in either way,=0D=0A=The bristle side and the wooden side,=0D=0A=So as to the texture of a surface;=0D=0A=The smooth and the textured.=0D=0A=He also taught me the word &ldquo;Chiaroscuro&rdquo; (contrast between light and dark),=0D=0A=That reminded me about &ldquo;Tai-chi&ldquo;(balance between Ying & Yang).=0D=0A=Yes, the push-pin picture came into my mind again.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Monet showed me how to put colors together in an impressionism way.=0D=0A=I was truly impressed when Picasso noted that his cubism were influenced by oriental art,=0D=0A=He had captured the spirit of oriental art in such a colorful way.=0D=0A=By then I understood the meaning of &ldquo;Travel beyond the time and space&rdquo; (????),=0D=0A=In a more colorful approach.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=At Bauhaus in Germany,=0D=0A=I met Walter Gropius, an architect of his time.=0D=0A=We might have the same profession and vision in first place,=0D=0A=But our destination was a lot difference.=0D=0A=His calling was to merge the craftsmen and fine art into one,=0D=0A=Forms follow function is the new name.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Today, I am on my endless voyage to an unclear destiny.=0D=0A=I may stay in a cocoon for a while before=0D=0A=I could understand the meaning of=0D=0A=The bone and the flesh.=0D=0A=The wise butterfly console me;=0D=0A=Dear Voyager,=0D=0A=Suffering is beautiful.=0D=0A=You may wish the road is much shorter, yet,=0D=0A=Via suffering, the bone is strengthened, and=0D=0A=It will produce a beautiful and fragrance flesh.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Every piece of art is a journey,=0D=0A=Of someone who did it.=0D=0A=So is mine&hellip;&hellip;&hellip;.=0D=0A=&nbsp;=0D=0A=Opening Reception: Saturday, July 11 time: 1:00pm- 3:00pm On View: July 1 - August 3, 2009 time: 10:00am- 5:00pm (Monday-Friday) Sat and Sun by appointment only location: Artists' Alliance of Sugar Land 104 Industrial Blvd., Suite Q Sugar Land, TX 77478 (281) 565-0957.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:Opening Reception: =0D=0A=Saturday, July 11 =0D=0A=1:00pm- 3:00pm=0D=0A=On View: =0D=0A=July 1 - August 3=0D=0A=10:00am- 5:00pm (Monday-Friday) =0D=0A=Sat and Sun by appointment only
