DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Jordan Fuchs Company: Thicket and Strange Planet=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artshound.com/event/detail/35375=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2010-01-15=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2010-01-17=0D=0A=0D=0ABarnevelder Movement/Arts Complex presents the Jordan Fuchs Company in Thicket and Strange Planet, Fri / Sat / Sun January 15, 16, 17, 2010, at the Barnevelder Theater, 2201 Preston @ Hutchins. Intimate and intricate dance theatre, performed in-the-round, surreal sonic environment generated live, individualized audience headphones, limited seating!!!=0D=0A=Thicket explores an environment that grows more and more dense with the entanglements of human interactions, as four dancers, driven by forces larger than they can know, stretch physical relationships into space in an intimate setting where the visual and aural dislocate. Performed in the round for audience members seated on the dance floor, Thicket features a hyper-real and surreal sonic environment generated live by composer Andy Russ for an audience listening on headphones. =0D=0A=Thicket's original premiere Danspace Project in New York City on January 24, 2008 was made possible, in part, by the Danspace Project 2007-08 Commissioning Initiative, with support from the Jerome Foundation and The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Additional support was provided by the Hunter College Department of Dance, Texas Woman's University, and the TWU Department of Dance.=0D=0A='an entire universe of throbbing, sprinting natural life... There was a sense not of pathways or travel, just of irresistible natural forces at work... magical.'=0D=0A=Jennifer Dunning=0D=0A=New York Times=0D=0A=January 26, 2008 =0D=0A==0D=0A='Redefining chaos... Fuchs has found a perfect title for the illusion of delicate complexity that he has created... What we see and hear in the beguiling collaboration between the choreographer and composer Andy Russ is sparer than most thickets... Yet, as in nature, surprises crop up, patterns come out of hiding, and sounds and imagery become denser.'=0D=0A=Deborah Jowitt=0D=0A=Village Voice =0D=0A=January 29, 2008=0D=0A==0D=0A=Grounded in explorations of physical theater, Strange Planet is an imaginative choreographic landscape for five dancers, characterized by disorientation and a pervasive undercurrent of aggression. Presented as a work-in-progress, Strange Planet is a power play between performers, responding to a multiplicity of simultaneous video and sonic information streams. Strange Planet was developed in residencies at Texas Woman's University and was made possible, in part, by a TWU School of the Arts Faculty Scholarship Enhancement Grant. =0D=0A==0D=0A=Choreography: Jordan Fuchs =0D=0A=Performers: Toby Billowitz, Jordan Fuchs, Kristina Isabelle, Leslie Scates and Storme Sundberg =0D=0A=Original Soundscore: Andy Russ =0D=0A=Light Design: Jeremy Choate =0D=0A=Costumes: Joy Havens =0D=0A==0D=0A=This Barnevelder performance residency by Jordan Fuchs Company has been made possible in part by a grant from the City of Houston's City's Initiative Program through the Houston Arts Alliance. =0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:Jan. 15, FRI @ 8:00 pm=0D=0A=Jan. 16, SAT @ 8:00 pm=0D=0A=Jan. 17, SUN @ 7:00 pm =0D=0A=
