A celebration of Houston's literary life, the 2010 Ball, chaired by Dan and Eleanor Gilbane, takes place on Saturday, February 20th, at the Houston Country Club and features National Book Award-winning writer Mark Doty (pictured, photo by Margaretta Mitchell).=0D=0A=The Ball is distinct from similar events due to its unique format. Before dinner, guests will enjoy wine and cocktails in three separate reading rooms, where prominent area writers will give literary performances of their own works. The 2010 before dinner readers include Alexander Parsons, Coert Voorhees, and Gwendolyn Zepeda. The evening will culminate with a talk by guest speaker Mark Doty, during coffee and dessert. Previous speakers have included such renowned writers as Jeffrey Eugenides, Richard Ford, Mary Karr, Joyce Carol Oates, Michael Ondaatje, and Wendy Wasserstein.=0D=0A=Unique and inventive table decorations based on literary themes have become a highlight of the Ball. The creative décor, authors, music, conversation, and exquisite food make the Ball one of the year's most distinctive social events.=0D=0A=All funds raised through the Poets & Writers Ball directly support Inprint's diverse and far-reaching schedule of readings, workshops, and other programs for Houston-area readers and writers. Proceeds from the gala also underwrite vital fellowships and prizes for graduate students at the renowned University of Houston Creative Writing Program, home to the next generation of America's top writers.=0D=0A=For further questions about the Ball, or to receive an invitation by mail, please contact Peter B.
