The exhibitions open Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. A reception for the artists will follow from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.=0D=0A=In Reading Between the Lines, Julie Brook Alexander photographs landscapes the way that quilters collect fabrics. She looks for bits and pieces to record for use in her studio. Alexander then gathers scenes that she can join with unrelated images in a collage. The specific technique for creating these images unites photography, painting and collage. Alexander states, 'The composite landscapes possess tension between elegantly orchestrated large views and areas of complex detail. The combinations balance light and dark tones as they reconstruct the architecture of physical space. This series is both active and reflective; it is simultaneously personal and universal.'=0D=0A=In Jim Falick's exhibition, The People of the Village, the photographs were taken at a Mkirikani Massai village in southeastern Kenya. The villagers welcomed tourists and for a fee, they gave tours and performed ceremonial dances. While it all may seem a remnant of colonialism, the money earned is significant and very important for cash purchases from the nearby town. Falick states, 'What most interested me was to capture how their wonderful faces express their feeling and their attitudes while dealing with visitors. The images shown here were made when they were not posing and usually did not know a photograph was being made.'=0D=0A=Reading Between the Lines and The People of the Village continue through March 20, 2010.=0D=0A=Pictured above: Jim Falick, Massai Mother and Child #2, 2009, archival inkjet print.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:Opening Reception:=0D=0A=Saturday, February 20=0D=0A=6pm-8pm=0D=0A=Regular Gallery Hours: =0D=0A=11am-5:00pm Tue-Sat=0D=0A=and by appointment
