Houston Ballet is offering various, exciting internship opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students over the course of summer (starting Tuesday June 5, 2018). These internships are a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in working the fields of art, dance, and non-profit organization. Interns will be able to assist and learn within a specific department and witness the day-to-day activities that make the Houston Ballet a world class ballet company.

NOTE: All internships are unpaid and offer flexible hours to accommodate school or work schedules.

HUMAN RESOURCES INTERN (Human Resources Department)

The Human Resources Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in areas of benefits management, recruitment, HR data management, and many different aspect of HR. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the HR Coordinator and Director of Human Resources and every effort is made to assist the intern in building strong office and human resources skills.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • An organized and enthusiastic person studying any major related to the internship of the applicants interest
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, acute attention to detail and the ability to work independently are required
  • Current student in HR related field of study


  • Assist in new-hire orientations and creation of on-boarding packs
  • Assist and learn about other HR tasks such as visa applications, workers comp claims, etc.
  • Assist in the maintaining and entry of date on the HRIS whilst learning how to ensure compliance with relevant employment and data legislation
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and phone systems, and use computers for spreadsheet, word processing, database management, and other applications
  • Review work done by others to check for correct spelling and grammar, ensure that company format policies are followed, and recommend revisions
  • General office assistance, upon request
