Backyard Moonshine Art Collective announces an open call for visual artists for the exhibit, “Bridging the Gap: Feminism and Femininity in Art.” This all female artist exhibition seeks to explore the perceived and complex dichotomy of the feminine and the feminist, and tensions and balance in the space between.

Artists may create pieces specifically for this show or submit existing pieces, though all artwork must adhere to theme of this show.

This exhibition is being co-curated by Shelby Hyman and joie Chandler. Work that has previously been exhibited in the SKIN gallery will not be selected for this show. There is no fee to exhibit at the gallery; Bayou City Body Shop will take a 20 percent commission on any pieces sold during the run of the show.

Artwork submissions should be sent via email to backyardmoonshine@gmail.com  by July 24, 2012. Please include a jpeg image of each piece, along with title, artist's name, dimensions, medium, price, and a couple short sentences for each piece explaining how the work fits into the theme. The subject line should read "Bridging the Gap-submissions." Artwork should be hang-ready (no sawtooth hooks), and photographs, collages, pastels, watercolors, and drawings on paper should be behind glass. Artists are encouraged to submit multiple pieces. You will be notified by July 28, 2012 if your work has been accepted in the show.
