Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is thrilled to announce the addition of Les Misérables to its 41st season lineup!

Les Misérables, one of the most famous Broadway shows of all time, will take the place of the previously scheduled Meet Me In St. Louis.

Les Misérables plays for two weeks, March 24 - April 5, 2009 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Houston. TUTS is one of a select few theatre companies licensed to produce this show until the rights become available again in 2013.

Adapted from the classic Victor Hugo novel, the musical theatre phenomenon Les Misérables has a score by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg (Miss Saigon), with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer.

Set in early 19th century France, Les Misérables is the tale of reformed convict Jean Valjean, who conceals his true identity in hopes of forging a new life, Inspector Javert who relentlessly pursues him, and Fantine, the single working mother forced into prostitution to provide for her daughter Cosette.

Les Misérables is one of the most performed musicals world-wide and has been translated into 21 different languages. Among the most famous songs of this Tony Award-winning musical are "Master of the House," "On My Own," and "I Dreamed a Dream."

"Les Misérables is one of the finest modern musicals and is a show our patrons have requested many, many times," said TUTS' President and CEO John Breckenridge.

After much work to acquire the rights, Theatre Under The Stars was afforded a brief nine month window in which to produce the show.

"We're thrilled to have this opportunity. In order to lock in Les Misérables we needed to reposition another show," Breckenridge reported. Meet Me In St Louis will be rescheduled for an upcoming season so patrons will not miss out on the opportunity to see this great, classic musical in the near future.

Les Misérables had a Broadway run of over 16 years and Theatre Under The Stars is elated to provide one of the most celebrated and longest running musicals of all time.

This immensely popular entertainment has been seen by over 53 million people worldwide in 38 countries and been performed in 21 languages. There are over 35 recordings of the score, again in several languages.
