The Houston Symphony presents a rising star in the international conducting world. Kirill Karabits will make his North American conducting debut with the Houston Symphony March 20, 21 and 22, 2009.

Principal Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2009-2010 season, this season the Ukrainian-born Karabits will conduct in Italy, South Korea and Germany, as well as in Switzerland and France.

The featured work of the March concert will be Tchaikovsky’s famed Symphony No. 6 in B minor, the Pathetique.

Joining Karabits on this program will be David Peck, principal clarinetist with the orchestra since 1991, and Rian Craypo, who was named principal bassoonist of the Houston Symphony in December of last year. They will join Maestro Karabits in performing Richard Strauss’ Duet-Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon.

Opening the concert will be the familiar Mussorgsky/Rimsky-Korsakov, A Night on Bald Mountain, known to many from being a featured theme in the classic Walt Disney film, Fantasia.

    Featuring:
    Kirill Karabits, conductor
    David Peck, clarinet
    Rian Craypo, bassoon

    Scheduled Program:
Moussorgsky/Rimsky Korsakov: A Night on Bald Mountain
Richard Strauss: Duet-Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Pathetique

Note: This program replaces the concert that was to have been conducted by Sir André Previn, who canceled due to a scheduling conflict.
