    Musiqa presents a free Loft Concert at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston in conjunction with the exhibition The Puppet Show (pictured). The concert takes place on Thursday, February 12th, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. The program includes Lester Trimble’s Four Fragments from the Canterbury Tales for soprano, flute, clarinet and harpsichord; three Sonatas for Harpsichord by Lou Harrison; and Meeting I for clarinet and harpsichord by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Performers include Karol Bennett, soprano, Leone Buyse, flute; Keith Weber, harpsichord; and Michael Webster, clarinet.

    Recently featured on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” and winner of a 2008 Access to Artistic Excellence Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Musiqa is nationally recognized for its innovative inter-disciplinary concerts. Musiqa performs an annual subscription series at Zilkha Hall as part of the Hobby Center’s “Uniquely Houston” series, free loft concerts at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and an outreach program that has been seen by more than 15,000 public elementary school students in the past four years.

    Musiqa is funded in part by grants from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance and the National Endowment for the Arts. Major support for Musiqa has been provided by the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, the Argosy Foundation Fund for Contemporary Music, the Bridgeway Charitable Foundation, Continental Airlines, the Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts, the Herzstein Foundation, Houston Endowment Inc., Lexus, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Powell Foundation, the Simmons Foundation, the Strake Foundation, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Toomim Foundation and the Wolff Foundation.

    2008-09 marks Musiqa’s fifth year of presenting free “loft” concerts at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

    Join us for these popular informal, intimate concerts, each produced in conjunction with a different exhibition.

    All concerts start at 6:30 p.m and last one hour.
