Sheila Starks Phillips will conclude The Grand 1894 Opera House's 2008-2009 Centennial Sundays Series on Sunday, April 26 at 3 pm with her Wit and Wisdom performance.

Sponsored in part by Texas Commission on the Arts, this teller of tales and children's book author has an extensive repertoire of stories that will fit any occasion.

Hilarious stories, stories with a moral, family stories, folk tales, original stories and more, that can knock the socks off an audience of children and enchant an audience of adults.

Best known for her outrageous, bodacious lies, Phillips' repertoire includes traditional world folktales and personal narratives.

A three-time winner of the Houston Area Liars' Contest, she has been a featured storyteller at festivals around the country including the Tejas Storytelling Festival in Denton, Texas; The Corn Island Storytelling Festival in Louisville, Kentucky; and The Houston Storytelling Festival.

A native Texan, Phillips' stories are those she has collected from her Texas roots as well as her travels throughout the country and are geared to adults as well as children.

In 2001, she published her first children's book entitled The Eggstra-Ordinary Surprise.

Her career has ranged from first grade teacher to zookeeper at the Houston Zoo.

Since 1990, she has mesmerized audiences as a master storyteller, weaving tales of wit and wisdom to all types of audiences, both young and old. Often combining music with her stories, she draws on her extensive repertoire to make each performance customized while keeping the audience's age and interests in mind.
