    Remembering Anson Jones

    Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site presents Remembering Anson Jones.

    Dr. Anson Jones, last president of the Republic of Texas, will be remembered on January 10-11, 2009. Learn about the mourning customs of the 1850's, including clothing and mourning practices. Pay homage to the man who helped get Texas admitted to the United States of America.

    Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site presents Remembering Anson Jones.

    Dr. Anson Jones, last president of the Republic of Texas, will be remembered on January 10-11, 2009. Learn about the mourning customs of the 1850's, including clothing and mourning practices. Pay homage to the man who helped get Texas admitted to the United States of America.

    Find out what was worn, what the funeral customs were, and how things were done at the time of Anson Jones' death.

    Experience life at Barrington, and explore the home where Dr. Jones spent the last 13 years of his life. See the slave quarters where Dr. Jones' labor force was housed and contemplate the management of a 1,100-acre cotton farm; see the herd of Pineywoods cattle kept at Barrington. Enjoy the costumed interpreters as they recreate 19th century Texas.

    Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site is located off Texas Highway 105 between Brenham and Navasota on FM 1155.

    Brenham/Washington County is located halfway between Houston and Austin. Home of Blue Bell ice cream, Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site - "The Birthplace of Texas," more than 40 bed and breakfast inns, wineries, Brenham's Main Street District and more.
