The Rothko Chapel presents Cranes Have No Political Boundaries: Saving the Cranes in North Korea, featuring  Dr. George Archibald, Founder, International Crane Foundation. Tuesday, February 24, 7 p.m.

Dr. George Archibald has devoted his life to researching and working with cranes, which are a threatened and endangered species. Archibald pioneered several techniques to rear cranes in human care, and in 1984 was awarded a MacArthur Fellows Program grant for his work. His work has taken him to remote parts of the earth including hostile areas such as the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

He will speak about his recent work in North Korea to provide a safe winter home for the magnificent Red-crowned Cranes (pictured). Together with Dr. Pak U. Il, North Korea’s leading ornithologist, Archibald hopes that these iconic birds that represent good luck and long life to all Koreans will be a vehicle for goodwill between the two fractious Koreas.
