The Rothko Chapel presents Song Salon Series: Gnosis in Song, featuring April de Conick, Professor of Religion, Becky Baxter, Harp, and Sonja Bruzauskas, Mezzo Soprano. Friday, May 15, 7 p.m.

This collaboration with Divas World Productions presents an investigation of the Gnostic Gospels through music and discussion. Imagine hearing the Gnostic Gospels as in the early days of Christianity—mesmerized by the haunting vocals of text and song.

Sonja Bruzauskas (pictured) and harpist Becky Baxter interpret the Gnostic Gospels through Bruzauskas’s own contemporary compositions in collaboration with Rice University religious scholar April de Conick. De Conick’s scholarship and translation of the Gnostic Gospels has led her to believe that they were meant to be chanted or sung.

The solemn beauty of The Rothko Chapel is the setting for this evening of mystery and discovery.
