The First Saturday Arts Market recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Continuing that tradition of making the arts accessible to all, up to 50 artists, artisans, jewelers, craftsmen and musicians will participate in May's market on Saturday, May 2, in The Heights.

Located on the Wind Water Gallery parking lot at 548 West 19th Street, the First Saturday Arts Market is open from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Visitors can experience the true diversity of Houston's arts communities in a venue that is unparalleled in its variety of painters, jewelers, metalsmiths, woodworkers, printers, pastelists, musicians and many other eclectic treats for the eyes and senses. And, as an additional treat, the Houston Heights Association's Heights 1st Saturday shuttle will be making stops at the market on Saturday between 12 and 4 p.m.

Entertaining the crowds of art patrons and enthusiasts from 12 noon until 2 p.m.will be the Myrna Sanders Bands. Then, Houston's own Hawaiian band, The Grass Skirts will take the stage from 3-6 p.m.

But live entertainment is not the only attraction as the name First Saturday Arts Market implies. There will also be art in abundance, with a dazzling selection of professional and emerging artists on hand.

On Saturday, June 6, the market returns to its summer evening hours of 6-10 p.m.
