    Texas Repertory Theatre is proud to present Steel Magnolias. 

    Robert Harling’s modern classic takes place in Truvy’s beauty salon, and chronicles the friendship of a group of southern women through the hilarious turns, triumphs, and trials of life.  A homage to the strength of Southern womanhood, Steel Magnolias debuted in 1987 and quickly moved to Broadway for an extended hit run. In 1987, Steel Magnolias was made into a highly successful film, and has been a mainstay of American theatres ever since.

    Concerned with a group of gossipy southern ladies in a small-town beauty parlor, the play is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters, giving the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

    A touching comedy-drama, Steel Magnolias will be directed by Texas Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Craig Miller, and provides a wonderful showcase for the outstanding actresses of The Texas Repertory Theatre Co.
