    Encaustic painting combines colored pigment with hot wax as a binder. This ancient method of painting fits a wide array of applications that include surface treatment of sculptural forms, luminous transparencies, opaque impasto and limitless mixed media capabilities.

    Many of today’s contemporary artists are pioneering a resurgence of encaustic painting, including a wax encaustic painting group in Texas known as Texas-Wax. The local chapter, Houston-Wax, maintains a blog site at texaswaxhouston.blogspot.com.

    Join Robert McGehee, visual arts professor, and students in his Continuing Education encaustic painting class at the 4:30 p.m. opening reception Feb. 26.

    The Bosque Gallery is located in the Center for the Arts building on the Barker Cypress campus at 9191 Barker Cypress. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
