    Eugene Rumer and Angela Stent serve on the Steering Committee of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences U.S. Policy toward Russia initiative and last fall led a related nonpartisan working group on US-Russian relations. They will discuss the group’s findings, the impact of the current global financial crisis on bilateral ties, and will offer recommendations on foreign policy and security issues in evolving U.S.- Russian relations.

    Eugene Rumer is a senior fellow at the Institute for National Strategic Studies of the National Defense University. He has also worked for the U.S. Department of State, the staff of the National Security Council, and the Rand Corporation. He has written extensively on Russia and other former Soviet states.

    Angela Stent (pictured) is the director of the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service and is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. She has served in the U.S. Department of State, at the National Intelligence Council, and was a Fulbright scholar at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Her publications on Russia include Russia and Germany Reborn: Unification, The Soviet Collapse and the New Europe, and Restoration and Revolution in Putin’s Foreign Policy.
