Karen Derr & Associates Realty will host a solo exhibition of works by Houston artist Lindsay Peyton on Wednesday, March 25. A reception for the artist, open to the public, is scheduled for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the agency’s 1545 Heights Boulevard headquarters. Peyton will donate 15 percent of the sales to LIVEConsortium, a local nonprofit that provides HIV education and health care services.

The invitation to show at the Victorian style two-story office building came as Peyton was signing the lease on her new apartment.

“Margot Perez, who’s an agent, pulled up my web site as we were talking,” Peyton recalls. “She asked if I would be willing to show some of my paintings at the office.”

Peyton had shown with Karen Derr before, exhibiting at the agency’s Galveston office last summer as part of the island’s Art Walk. She says she loved seeing how her paintings looked on the walls of a historic home. While a new structure, the agency’s Heights office features design elements from the Victorian architectural style.

“Everyone at the office seems to really enjoy and support the arts,” said Peyton. “Plus, it’s a great place to show art. People get an idea of how paintings look in a home, which they wouldn’t see in an austere gallery.”

Peyton studied photojournalism in college but says she now paints instead of picking up her camera. Although she has taken a few art classes, she considers herself mostly self-taught. Her favorite medium is oil paint, and her works have been featured in several Houston-area galleries and gathering places as well as in private collections.

“I think Houston has an exciting art scene,” Peyton said, “and I am hoping people will break with their usual mid-week routine to come out on Wednesday night to see my new paintings.”
