This lecture/workshop will look at basic concepts behind lighting in film and video by challenging the traditional notion of three point lighting. We will discuss the process for creating a lighting design in motion pictures as well as revisiting/uncovering the basic properties of lighting instruments and the vocabulary we use to talk about light.

This lecture centers around the idea "if you don't know what that light is doing then turn it off." Part lecture and part hands on lighting lab, each student will be asked to engage in lighting a scene so bring some gloves and an artistic vision.
