At The Menil Arts Community Open House, Aurora Picture Show presents family-friendly videoke, musical entertainment, and a screening of short films.

The non-profit arts organizations of the Menil Campus, including Aurora Picture Show, band together to showcase a free afternoon of arts and entertainment including performances, exhibits, screenings, readings, classes, and services at an all-day open house. The Open House will extend across the Menil "campus" from West Alabama to Richmond Avenue, including the Menil's four buildings for art: the 1987 museum designed by architect Renzo Piano to house and display the art collection assembled by Dominique and John de Menil, Cy Twombly Gallery, the Byzantine Fresco Chapel, and Richmond Hall (the permanent installation of work by Dan Flavin).

Join Aurora for family-friendly videoke and treats at the office from 3-6PM, a musical performance from DJ Lama at the Menil Bookstore from 6:30-8PM, followed by a screening of short films funded by the Austin Film Society’s Texas Filmmakers Production Fund at 8PM, outdoors in the backyard of the office location, 1524 Sul Ross.

Films included in the program include:
George Langworthy........BREEZEWAY Toddy Burton........THE AVIATRIX Lance Myers........SUBSIDIZED FATE Bob Ray........SWEET SWEETROLL David Zellner........QUASAR HERNANDEZ Andre Silva........BEEZLEBUB'S BATHTUB Ted Gesing........NUTRIA Eileen Maxson........TONIGHT (REPRISE)

In addition to the ongoing exhibits from organizations such as The Menil Collection, Houston Center for Photography, The Rothko Chapel and the Watercolor Arts Society - Houston, there will be special music performances, art exhibitions, and programs of the spoken word from organizations such as Da Camera, Inprint, SWAMP, Cinema Arts Society and Writers in the Schools.

Snacks and refreshments can be purchased at The Menil Collection Bookstore, and from food vendors parked around the campus.

Those intending to stay for the film should bring blankets or lawnchairs. Limited street parking is available throughout the neighborhood. Visitors can park free at the museum parking lot on West Alabama, between Mandell and Mulberry.

Aurora Picture Show events are sponsored by Saint Arnold Brewery. Sophias is also offering a special discount to all Open House attendees on that day.
