The Foundation for Modern Music And Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble present Tim Hagans Subversive Jazz quartet with special guests the Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble on Saturday April 25 at 8 p.m. at Barnevelder Theater, 2201 Preston @ Hutchins.
Composer and Trumpeter Tim Hagans is considered by many to be one of the most unique and influential modern voices on trumpet. His distinct tone was described by the Village Voice as "powerfully expressive" and the renown jazz critic Gary Giddins professed him to be a "swarming, spirited tour de force."
Tim Hagans on trumpet is joined by Seth Paynter, saxophone; Thomas Helton, bass; Richard Cholakian, drums. Hagans steps up the energy by partnering his furious eighth notes with the wild frenetic shapes of the Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble.
Described by ArtsHouston as "sensuous and poetic" the Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble is known for their use of live original music in performance and the integration of musicians into the visual stage imagery. Dancers Brooke Barnes, Scarlett Barnes, Lindsey McGill and Michele Brangwen join the musicians for two spontaneous works where anything can happen on stage.
KUHF Announcer Eric Ladau introduces the performance. Tickets are $20 General Admission and $15 Students & Seniors and can be purchased at the door with cash or check or in advance at www.brangwendance.org.
