The Houston Symphony and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion present Rockapella Goes Retro, Thurday, September 3, 2009, at 8:00 PM.

Groove to the music of the ‘60s and ‘70s with the Houston Symphony’s Rockapella Goes Retro at The Pavilion Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. Michael Krajewski conducts the symphony as five-part American a cappella musical group, Rockapella, entices audiences with their unique voices and sounds. Orchestra-level seats are $15. Mezzanine and lawn seating is free courtesy of Woodforest National Bank and KPMG LLP. Gates open at 7 p.m.

Throughout the evening, Rockapella performs nostalgic rock songs a cappella. Musical selections include such hits as “Here Comes the Sun,” “Rock the Boat,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Shambala” and “Philadelphia Freedom.” Their infectious energy and musical harmony, mixed with the music of the renowned Houston Symphony, will have you dancing in your seat.

Rockapella started performing in 1986 and continues capturing audiences with the best musical instrument of all – the human voice. The group got its start as a featured artist on the PBS television special “Do it A Cappella.” It showcased Rockapella’s unique sound and talented vocal ability. The group appeared on other television shows on PBS and HBO, as well as “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, NBC’s “Today Show” and the CBS “Early Show.” Soon, Rockapella developed a strong fan base, spreading its newly created flavor of contemporary pop music throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Rockapella has even collaborated with the world-famous Boston Pops and sold out venues throughout the nation.

Arrive early to enjoy free ice cream courtesy of Fidelity Investments. Free ice cream will be served to the first 1,000 guests starting at 7 p.m. in the Fidelity Investments Plaza.
