Jandek Groupies unite! DiverseWorks invites you to a truly unique music event featuring world renowned and mysterious music legend, Jandek. According to a fan website, http://tisue.net/jandek/ , “Everybody knows one thing about Jandek: nobody knows anything about Jandek. There is nothing but the music.”

Houstonians will get the rare chance to see Jandek (pictured) perform live in an intimate theater setting at DiverseWorks ArtSpace on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 7pm. Jandek has released 80 records, was the subject of the documentary, Jandek on Corwood, and played his first live set in 2004 to a surprised audience. Little is known about the musician other than reports of sightings, rare concerts as well as surprise appearances, therefore making the performance at DiverseWorks a coveted ticket.

MV & EE, Matt “MV” Valentine, once the brawn of the Tower Recordings, and Erika “EE” Elder, CEO of Heroine Celestial Agriculture and The MV & EE Medicine Show will open for Jandek that evening.

Jandek is the musical project of an outsider musician who operates out of Houston, Texas. Since 1978, Jandek has self-released more than 50 albums of unusual, often emotionally dissolute folk and blues songs without ever granting more than the occasional interview or providing any biographical information. Jandek often plays a highly idiosyncratic and frequently atonal form of folk and blues music, often using an open and unconventional chord structure. Jandek's music is unique, but the lyrics closely mirror the country blues and folk traditions of East Texas. The name "Jandek" is most commonly used to refer specifically to the main—often sole—performer, rather than to the project.

MV & EE will be celebrating the release of their latest album Drone Trailer with a North American tour commencing April 26 in Philadelphia, PA and ending May 4 in Austin, TX. MV & EE (Matt “MV” Valentine, once the brawn of the Tower Recordings, and Erika “EE” Elder, CEO of Heroine Celestial Agriculture and The MV & EE Medicine Show) have landed at DiCristina Stairbuilders with thisnew release, Drone Trailer. The touring line-up will be MV & EE on their own excepting in New York City, Philadelphia, Richmand Asheville where the pair will be accompanied by frontier percussion and lunar drums courtesy of the “Aswara Gentleman” (otherwise known as Rafi and Paul); in NYC and Philly this quartet will be joined by Jeremy Earl (of woods/meneguar & uckittapes/woodsist fame), who will be playing instruments and singing harmony.
