Inman Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition  Katrina Moorhead: a darkling plain.   On view April 24 through June 13.

Katrina Moorhead was born in 1971 in Coleraine, Northern Ireland and currently lives and works in Houston, TX. She studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, receiving BA (1994) and MA (1996) degrees from that institution. Her artistic practice includes simple drawings and sculpture comprising humble materials transformed through obsessive activity. Her work was included in the group exhibition, The Nature of Things, representing Northern Ireland at the 2005 Venice Biennale.

Moorhead's most recent exhibition prior to her debut exhibition at Inman Gallery (a pretty girl that this man does not love her), entitled an island as it might be, was the culminaion of her Fall 2005 ArtPace Artist Residency, in San Antonio, TX. Moorhead was a finalist for the inaugural Irish American Arts Award, a prize designed to encourage artists of Irish heritage in North America. Her work was included in the group exhibition "Architectural Utopias" at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria in the fall of 2006.

Her solo exhibition A Thing Called Early Blur was on view at the Blaffer Gallery, The Art Museum at the University of Houston from May - August 2007. Her work is currently on view in a solo exhibition at the James Harris Gallery, Seattle, as well as the Arthouse Texas Prize finalists exhibition, at Arthouse, Austin, both through November 10, 2007.

On November 2, Moorhead was awarded the 2007 Arthouse Texas Prize, a $30,000USD award. She was selected from five finalists, who were in turn selected from a pool of candidates nominated by arts professionals throughout Texas. This is the second installment of the biennial award given to a Texas-based emerging or under-recognized artist.

The second biennial Arthouse Texas Prize jury was chaired by Arthouse’s Executive Director, Sue Graze, and includes Frances Colpitt, Deedie Potter Rose Chair of Art History, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth; Elizabeth Dunbar, Curator, Arthouse; Eileen Maxson, 2005 Arthouse Texas Prize recipient; Debra Singer, Executive Director and Chief Curator, The Kitchen, New York; and Franklin Sirmans, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Menil Collection in Houston. In February 2007, the jury convened to select the five finalists from 136 nominations. The finalists were Dawolu Jabari Anderson (Houston), Justin Boyd (San Antonio), Margarita Cabrera (El Paso), Bill Davenport (Houston, also represented by Inman Gallery), and Katrina Moorhead (Houston).
