Inprint offers an eight week Playwriting Workshop this summer. This special workshop, offered as part of Inprint's Summer 2009 Writers Workshops, is an unique opportunity for playwrights of all backgrounds and all writing levels to work in a collaborative process with actors and directors.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: A play comes to life when a director blocks a scene, actors embody words, and of course, the playwright envisions an entire world. Over eight weeks our playwriting workshop will take material students bring to class and shape it for the stage through a collaborative process that includes the participation of actors and directors from Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company. Students should send the plays they wish to workshop to the instructor before the class begins. The submitted work should be no longer than a one-act or a scene from a full-length play.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: John Harvey is the Resident Playwright for Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company and Artist-in-Residence at The Honors College at the University of Houston. His plays have been acclaimed in The Houston Chronicle, Houston Press and American Theater Magazine. He has received two artist grants from the Houston Artists Alliance and his poems have been published in Gulf Coast, Whiskey Island, VOX and other journals.
