Celebrate Weather Pioneer Day, a FREE event at The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, the nation’s first and only museum of its kind, on Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Weather Pioneer Day was created by The John C. Freeman Weather Museum to pay tribute to historical weather pioneers and meteorologists and inform the public of the rich and varied weather history of Harris and Galveston Counties.

Attention will be focused on the work of the first weather pioneers in the region and the challenges they faced in recording their data. This exhibition is devoted to them and their life’s work. The free day-long celebration will include admission to the museum and kid-friendly activities the whole family can enjoy.

The John C. Freeman Weather Museum would like to acknowledge its partnership with the Houston Arts Alliance to expand the museum’s community weather awareness programs. The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, located at 5104 Caroline in the Museum District, opened its doors in April of 2006 to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Founded and operated by meteorologists, the Weather Museum is a project of Weather Research Center, a Houston, Texas based non-profit educational and research organization, whose goal is to reach as many people as possible and educate them about weather and weather safety.

Weather Pioneer Day is a day to celebrate the rich and varied history of southeast Texas. So come and learn about how this area planted the seeds for the American Meteorological Society, how weather observations were taken without modern technology, our own memorable weather events, and much more.

This event is free to the public and will also feature a petting zoo for all the kids in attendance.
