In celebration of its 40th season, Houston Ballet will stage a brand new production of an historic classic, La Bayadere, running February 25 through March 7, 2010.
This world premiere by Stanton Welch is an exotic story of the temple dancer, Nikiya, her lover, Solor, and the vengeance that keeps them apart, at least in this life. Set in northern India, La Bayadere will dazzle audiences with lavish scenery and costumes by the celebrated English designer Peter Farmer. It will thrill novices and balletomanes alike with its strong classical performances including the famous Shades scene, staged for the entire corps de ballet.
Set in the Royal India of the past, La Bayadère (“The Temple Dancer”) is a story of eternal love, mystery, fate, vengeance, and justice.
Music: Leon Minkus
Choreography: Stanton Welch
Designs: Peter Farmer

It was a very beautiful ballet, music, choreography and scenery too. I arrived with no time to read the story line, but due to the dancers expressive movements, they made it clear what was happening.... Expand
