Houston Ballet presents La Fille mal gardée (The Wayward Daughter), June 10 through June 20, 2010.
Love and laughter. Flirtation and farce. This is the charm of La Fille mal gardée. Long regarded as one of the dance's greatest comedies, The Wayward Daughter delights with colorful characters and witty choreography by Sir Frederick Ashton. A glorious romantic comedy full of color and laughter, La Fille mal gardée is set in the countryside in eighteenth century France. The ballet tells the story of Lise, a young maiden who must choose between the handsome, penniless farmer Colas and the wealthy simpleton Alain whom her meddling mama wishes her to marry. In La Fille mal gardée, folk dance and classical ballet meet in a joyous celebration of love and life.
With its combination of classical ballet, folk dance and over-the-top personalities, The Wayward Daughter is ideal for the entire family. If you liked The Nutcracker, you'll love La Fille mal gardée.
