Duplicity: deceitfulness in speech or conduct; speaking or acting in 2 different ways concerning the same matter with intent to deceive; double-dealing. Hungry's Gallery is pleased to present Summer Student Show II: Duplicity, a group exhibition featuring the work of Episcopal High School Photography students. This exhibition will open on Saturday, June 27th, 2009 at The Hungry's Gallery - 2356 Rice Blvd. - and will be on view through Monday, August 3rd, 2009. The opening reception for this event will take place Saturday, June 27th, 2009 from 4 – 6 pm, with light refreshments. At 5 pm there will be an artist talk by the students.

The show title and theme, Duplicity, was chosen as a way to reveal the construction of visual imagery and to dispel the myth of an ultimate truth in photography. The work ranges from straight photography that looks manipulated – a photo taken during Hurricane Ike where a ship landed in someone’s backyard making their patio set look like toys in a dollhouse – to visual tricks employed in experimental photography.

The students are from Photo I, II, & III, consisting of Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Art classes are a requirement as one of the four pillars at Episcopal, the other three being Academics, Religion, and Sports. The students experiment with many types of cameras (pinhole, 35mm, Holgas, 4 x 5), work in the darkroom, and use scanners(to scan objects and film).

The goal of their teacher Laura Bennett is to “get the students to see in a different way, in a new way, and to be able to manifest something tangible from an idea.” She wants them to learn how to use the different photographic tools to produce something creative.

List of students exhibiting: Carolyn Burnett, Parker Fleming, Grace Frantz, Anna Eadie-Friedman, Perry Lee, Andrew Lefas, Garrett Marsh, Colin Mellinger, Maggie Nemetz ,Christine Orson, Charlie Pearce, Rachel Ransleben, Samantha Speakmon, Kelsey Vasquez.
