Have you ever noticed the ease that seems to inhabit young children? You are seeing the ease we are all born with, the ease that deteriorates as we get older. We don’t notice the interference because it is so gradual, but it is there. What we do notice is stress, discomfort, or even pain.

The Alexander Technique developed by F. Matthias Alexander, helps us to expand our awareness so that we can become conscious of our habits of tension that interfere with our inherent coordination, flexibility and ease of movement. We can then apply Alexander’s methods in order to move out of these habits that cause stress in our bodies and our lives.

Living with Ease through the Alexander Technique will be held at the Jewish Community Center of Houston, 5601 S. Braeswood on Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28, 2009. An introduction to the work will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday and a more personalized study from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday.

The workshop taught by Christine Lidvall and Kathy Sarra will focus on the principles of the Alexander Technique and how his work is open to students who are new to the technique as well as those who have previous experience. The fee for the full workshop is $180 for the general public and $160 for JCC members. Space is limited to 14 students for the Sunday event. Individual lessons will also be available.
