Every Friday and Saturday night at 11:55pm, it's another Midnight Movie Classic at the Landmark River Oaks Theatre.
Friday-Saturday, July 24-July 25: Deadgirl.
Synopsis: DEADGIRL, the film that Slate.com called "the hottest indie horror flick of the year" is coming to the River Oaks Theater in Houston this weekend. The film is being released theatrically as a one-weekend, midnight only, road show-style theatrical event. This is Houston's only chance to see it! It's been called "audacious" (Hollywood Reporter), "unsettlingly sexual" (IndieWIRE) and "pretty much f***ing brilliant" (Ain't It CoolNews). Thought to be too controversial to release, it stands as one of the most daringly original and disturbing films of our time.
Daringly original and genre-busting, Deadgirl is an odyssey into the soul of our alienated youth. But by injecting universal teen moral moorings into something fantastical and terrifying, the film takes the conventions of the horror and coming-of-age movies and turns them on their heads.
When high school misfits Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) and JT (Noah Segan) decide to cut school and find themselves lost in the crumbling facility of a nearby abandoned hospital, they come face-to-face with a gruesome discovery: a woman whose body has been stripped naked, chained to a table and covered in plastic. When both react to the situation in extremely different ways, the boys soon find themselves embarking on a twisted yet poignant journey that forces them to decide just how far they're willing to stretch their understanding of right and wrong.
From the producer of the seminal "Hellraiser" and the legendary "Heathers", DEADGIRL is a new genre classic and a no-holds-barred look at the horror of growing up. A no-holds-barred look at the horror of growing up, Deadgirl also stars Michael Bowen and Candice Accola.
