The Hellenic Professional Society of Texas presents an HPST Poetry Evening: "Palamás, A Dominant Force in Modern Greek Letters," Sunday, November 8, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. in the Byzantine Fresco Chapel, 4011 Yupon Street.  A short reception at the Chapel foyer will follow the presentation of the poet's work.

Kostís Palamás (pictured, 1859-1943) became synonymous with the emergence of the first original Poetic School in independent Greece. In that capacity, this unassuming and kind personality dominated the literature scene of Greece from 1886 to 1912. Widely celebrated during his life - and even at death - Palamás was eventually superseded by a younger generation of poets influenced by him, including Greece's two Nobel laureates. Nevertheless Palamás' extensive legacy, built upon the foundation of some superb works, has secured its continued impact and relevance in our time.
