Wednesday, August 12:  Felora Derakhshani, Baha'i Meditation

In August, the Chapel is pleased to welcome Felora Derakhshani, who is travelling from Austin to lead a meditation associated with the Baha'i faith. Her meditation will take place in the Chapel at noon on Wednesday, August 12.

Felora Derakhshani is the founder and president of Advancing Community Through Women (ACT Women), a non-profit organization based in Austin whose mission is to empower young girls and women to become agents of change using spiritual tools. Ms. Derakhshani will offer a short presentation on the importance of meditation in the Baha'i faith. She will then lead a unique meditation technique designed by a group of Baha'i youth in Ghana to bridge boundaries and religious backgrounds.

The Rothko Chapel and its sponsoring partners initiated Twelve Moments of Spirituality and Healing in 2007 in response to scientific studies that suggest a spiritual practice can offer the possibility of physical and psychological healing while deepening a sense of meaning and connection to inner values.

As a sacred space dedicated to broadening interfaith understanding, the Rothko Chapel is committed to bringing together people of all faiths to experience the modern meditative environment inspired by the murals of the American painter Mark Rothko. In the tradition of John and Dominique de Menil, its founders, the Rothko Chapel continues to engage people spiritually, artistically, and intellectually by bringing leading experts, scholars, and religious leaders to discuss worldwide issues and concerns.

The Rothko Chapel is a sacred space, open to all, established to advance human rights, interfaith understanding, and justice.

Rothko Chapel programs are funded by individual, corporate, and foundation donors, and by a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.

The Rothko Chapel is open every day of the year from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All are welcome.
