Don't miss the Theatre Southwest production The Wayside Motor Inn by A. R. Gurney.  Directed by Malinda L. Beckham and Trevor B. Cone. Sept. 4 – Sept. 26. Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm (Matinee, Sept. 13 at 3 pm).

Five sets of travelers check into a motel outside of Boston, each on a different life journey in parallel unison. Their heartfelt stories converge to form a prismatic picture of American life. From A. R. Gurney, the author of more than 40 plays including Sylvia, and the Pulitzer prize winning Love Letters.

    A. R. Gurney (Playwright) (Albert Ramsdell Gurney Jr.), recipient of numerous theatre awards and honorary degrees, is best known for depicting East Coast WASP culture in plays such as Sylvia, Love Letters, and The Cocktail Hour. Born on November 1, 1930 in Buffalo, New York, Gurney attended the Yale School of Drama, then went on to teach Humanities at MIT until 1996, writing plays while on the faculty there. The Dining Roommarked his critical breakthrough, and his extensive body of work has grown to include Later Life, Labor Day, What I Did Last Summer, Richard Cory, and Mrs. Farnsworth; perhaps less renowned, his Love in Buffalo was the first musical ever to be produced at Yale. In 2006, Gurney was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He occasionally performs in his plays, most notably Love Letters.
