The Grand 1894 Opera House presents Smokey Robinson.

Smokey Robinson is the King of Motown! This multi-talented Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend brings his legendary blend of grit, grace, rhythm and romance to Galveston on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 8 pm and kicks off the 2009-2010 star-studded Performing Arts Season at The Grand 1894 Opera House. Sponsored in part by Frost Bank and Holliday Builders, Robinson will deliver a solid-gold evening featuring his timeless renditions of your favorite hits, including “The Way You Do the Thing You Do,” “Ooo Baby Baby,” “The Tracks of My Tears,” and “I Second That Emotion.”

Smokey Robinson began his musical life in Detroit. Along with The Miracles, Smokey scored his first big hit with “Shop Around” (1960) and developed quite a following with their energetic R&B sound. As both a member of The Miracles and a solo artist, Smokey recorded thirty-seven Top 40 hits for Motown between 1960 and 1987, and also served as the company's vice president from 1961 to 1988. Over forty years later, Smokey Robinson continues to prosper, with a long series of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world.

And now Robinson’s magical essence continues into his fifth decade as he has taken his work in a new direction. Beginning in 2004, he released a collection of music that reflected his spiritual beliefs entitled Food for the Spirit. "Had I not come out with an inspirational CD, you perhaps would have never known that I feel like I feel… that all songs… all the music I've ever done …is a gift from God," Robinson emphasized.

Indeed, Smokey Robinson goes on . . . and on . . . and on . . .You won’t want to miss this performance of soul-satisfying music.

Ticket prices range from $39 to $110. Discounts for groups and seniors may be available for select performances. Call for box seat prices.
