The Jung Center of Houston presents Cartoon Carnival: Archetypes in Native American Stories.  Analyst and author Ron Schenk listens for the archetypal echoes of contemporary cartoon characters in the stories of the Coushatta Tribe.

Spend a morning with the stories of the Coushatta Tribe of southwestern Louisiana. Many of the characters in contemporary cartoons have their antecedents in the stories of Native American tribes. We will participate in a parade of archetypal images such as Rabbit, Turtle, Woodpecker, Crow, Vulture, Owl and Mouse, universal figures such as Orphan, Hero Twins, Trickster, witches, wise women and fertility goddesses, and classic situations such as emergence, illness, stealing fire, flight, the race, and the ball game. The stories will be highlighted by images from many cultures, religions and eras. Our commentary will highlight how these archetypal divinities are at work and play in every moment of our daily lives.

Ronald Schenk, PhD, Jungian analyst, is currently in private practice in Dallas and Houston, and his interests are in clinical training, cultural psychology, and post-modernism. A longtime senior training analyst and recent president of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, he has written three books and several essays in recent Jungian publications.
