PERFORMANCE: When Roar Becomes Aria: Transformation in Fairy Tales and Music
Friday and Saturday, October 16 -17

Hear the transformative power of music and fairy tales in this unique collaboration. The archetypal truths found in fairy tales are so fundamental to the human experience that they have inspired artists of all genres for centuries. This special evening will explore the idea of transformation through music performance, poetry by Ava Leavell Haymon, and lecture by Jungian analyst Kathryn Burns.

Featured works will include The Fountain of Arethusa by Karol Szymanowski, excerpts from Bluebeard's Castle by Bela Bartok, excerpts from Faust by Charles Gounod and Mother Goose Suite by Maurice Ravel.

This series revives the traditional European-style salons, which have been popular for many centuries. Each salon consists of a concert with music surrounding the specific theme, a lecture, and a discussion after the intermission. The salon evenings have explored Venice, women composers, roses, cabaret, myths and legends, folk tales, visual music, medicine and music, and Texas composers.

    WORKSHOP: Beauty and the Beast
    Saturday, October 17
From the first chaotic impulses to the emergence of a stable form, how is the creative process like taming a beast? And, from a psychological point of view, what does this process ask of us? In Jungian psychology, fairy tales are viewed as storehouses of collective wisdom. In this three-hour class, we will interpret the images and narrative in the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, a story of creativity and the process of becoming conscious. Join us in unlocking the wisdom Beauty and the Beast holds for any creative process, including the ongoing creative project of living an authentic life.

Divas World Productions is a non-profit organization devoted to enriching lives through the integration of artists and audiences as well as music and thought. More information about Divas World Productions is available on their website: www.divasworld.org.
