Blue Willow Bookshop presents  Craig James.   All Hail the Spartans! Craig James of the 1978 Spartan State Champion team and an SMU alum, now a commentator on ESPN, will be in town to discuss and sign his book, Game Day: A Rollicking Journey to the Heart of College Football.

GAME DAY by Craig James celebrates the sport America is most passionate about while chronicling the remarkable 2008 season. Courting controversy, he offers a dramatic solution to the BCS problem and reveals all the payoffs, schemes and battles behind recruiting during the wild days. GAME DAY takes fans on the field at spring training sessions, where exclusive interviews with coaches such as Pete Carroll and Charlie Weiss and players such as Tim Tebow exhibit just what goes into preparing for the season and which teams were slated for greatness or not. He details what makes for the best coach and dares to name his ideal one.

GAME DAY looks back at the original College GameDay years and walks them through the preparations and prognostications for the season-changing USC-Oregon State game. He explores the importance of rivalries and shows readers how he puts together his rankings and Heisman ballot. And he sits back and tells a whole lot of great stories. GAME DAY is the book that will keep the tailgate talking before kickoff and after the final whistle.

Jesse Craig "Pony" James (born January 2, 1961 in Jacksonville, Texas) is an American sports commentator for games on the ABC and ESPN television networks. Prior to becoming a sportscaster, James was a professional football player for the New England Patriots of the National Football League and for the Washington Federals of the United States Football League.

James attended Stratford High School in Houston, Texas, where he was a star on Stratford's 1978 Texas class 4A championship football team, setting the single-season Texas 4A rushing record with 2,411 yards gained in 15 games. James, a running back also attended Southern Methodist University where he and teammate Eric Dickerson formed what was known as the "Pony Express" backfield (SMU's mascot is the mustang). In the 1980 Holiday Bowl (known as the Miracle Bowl), James' offensive production of 225 rushing yards and 9.9 yards/carry were both Holiday Bowl records that stood for 13 and 15 years respectively.

James retired from the NFL after the 1988 season, having rushed for 2,469 yards and eleven touchdowns in his five seasons with the Patriots. He also garnered 819 yards receiving and two touchdown catches.

NOTE:  As we anticipate a large crowd for this event, we will hold it in the Stratford High School auditorium.
