Second Seating, created by Mary Margaret Hansen, is an installation of fanciful chandeliers and elegant dinner tables made with found objects and recycled packaging from Houston's East End industry. Eight visual artists are participating with Hansen in Second Seating: Teodoro Estrada, Agnes Welsh Eyster, Mercedes Fernandez, Gonzo247, Victor Rodriguez, Jesse Sifuentes, Jose Solis and Catarina Williams.

Playing on the term used by restaurants when new diners replace those who have moved on, Second Seatings' fantasy tables and chandeliers incorporate coffee cans, Clorox bottles, oil pipeline parts mixed with vintage objects from the community. Fabrics found in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike floodwaters were salvaged to make a 10 x 14 hand sewn patchwork table cloth. 1000 pounds of compacted aluminum cans form a table. Plates from garage sales and Value Village encrust a wall and a series of paintings use hand embroidered napkins as canvas.

Second Seating is on view from September 24 - November 7, 2009.
