Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of ancestors and loved ones. The festival has it roots in pre-Colombian indigenous traditions & incorporates religious ritual, especially that of the Catholic Church. The actual days, November 1 & 2, are commonly known as All Saints & All Souls Days. They are widely celebrated in Mexico and among Hispanic Americans, & are becoming recognized as a way for all Americans, whatever their origin or religion, to honor departed loved ones.
