Unity Theatre's production of The Matchmaker begins their 15th season on October 8.  October 8 – 25, 2009 - 3 weeks, 12 shows.

Set at the turn of the century, The Matchmaker concerns the irascible, "half-a-millionaire," Horace Vandergelder, a store owner from Yonkers, New York, who engages matchmaker Dolly Levi to find him a wife. Dolly has plans of her own, catching up several pairs of soon-to-be-matched lovers, leading to one glorious day in New York City and happy endings for all.

If the story sounds familiar, that is because it formed the basis for the popular stage and film musical Hello, Dolly!

A delicious and dizzy comedy that embodies the American spirit of optimism and adventure. It's the story of one exasperating woman and of one glorious day in New York City, full of shenanigans, a stuffed whale, and pudding.

Directed by Kate Pogue, one of Unity's resident artists, The Matchmaker stars Kate Revnell-Smith as Dolly, the matchmaker, and Jeff Mackey as Vandergelder. This hilarious farce is by Thornton Wilder, one of America's most beloved playwrights and the author of Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth.

Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p. m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25. New this season is $15 @ 15, where unsold tickets can be had 15 minutes prior to the show for $15.
