    Baytown Symphony Orchestra 2009-2010 Season Opener

    The opening concert of the Baytown Symphony Orchestra will be Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the beautiful new auditorium of Lee College’s Performing Arts Center. The concert is free to the public. However, for the first time, tickets will be required for general admission seating. The free tickets for the Oct 10th concert will be handed out at the door so no advance effort will be needed. Come one, come...

    The opening concert of the Baytown Symphony Orchestra will be Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the beautiful new auditorium of Lee College’s Performing Arts Center. The concert is free to the public. However, for the first time, tickets will be required for general admission seating. The free tickets for the Oct 10th concert will be handed out at the door so no advance effort will be needed. Come one, come all!

    Other BSO concert dates for the season include a “Christmas Fantasy” featuring the Baytown Community Chorus on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The concerts in the New Year include “Exploring New Music Worlds” on Friday, March 9, 2010 and “Student Concert Winners” scheduled for April 30, 2010. The April program is primarily sponsored by the City of Baytown. In addition, a “Children’s Concert” sponsored by the Goose Creek Consolidated ISD, Lee college and the Baytown Symphony Orchestra is scheduled for Tuesday, 9:30 AM, March 5, 2010 at the Lee College Sports Complex.

    The soloists for this season have been selected from the orchestra’s principal players. Concert Master Alan Johnson will perform the Introduction and Capriccioso for Violin and Orchestra by Camille Saint-Saens on the seasonal opener and James Marioneaux will perform the World Premier of Leroy Osman’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra on the March event. The Baytown Community Chorus, conducted by John Weinel, will be featured with the orchestra on the seasonal opener in Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore, Randol’s A Feast of Carols in the seasonal program, Borodin’s Polovestian Dances in the season finale program. Other works performed for the first time will be orchestral repertory of Maurice Ravel’s Tziganne, Cesar Frank’s Le Chasseur Maudit and Victor Herbert’s ”Suite” from Babes in Toyland.

    James Marioneaux has been the principal clarinetist of the Baytown Symphony for many years.

    Alan Johnson teaches violin at Lee College.

    Dr. John Weinel will become a full-time faculty member at Lee College in the Fall of 2009. John will conduct the College Choir, the Select Choir, the Baytown Community Chorus, and teach voice, academic music courses and head-up the vocal area of the music department.
