The Lone Star Symphonic Band will begin its 17th concert season with a double header concert, titled Fall Festival, at the Houston Community College-Spring Branch Campus Performing Arts Center. The concerts will be held on Sunday, October 25th, 2009 in Theater #1 of the Performing Arts Center, with a 3:00 pm matinee and 7:00 pm evening performance being offered.
Individual ticket prices for each concert are $5 each, and are available at the door. 2009-2010 season tickets will also be available for $20, and include reserved seating at all concerts.
Pieces to be performed at the concerts include: A Festival Prelude by Mr. Alfred Reed, A Vigil, Keeping by Mr. Cesario, October by Mr. Eric Whitacre, Variations on a Shaker Melody (from Appalachian Spring) by Mr. Aaron Copeland, Color by Mr. Bob Margolis, and selections from The Wizard of Oz.
A sports package will be auctioned off during the concert, including Houston Aeros tickets, a gift certificate to Westin Lakes Golf Club, and Houston Texans memorabilia, among other items. 2009-2010 Houston Area Entertainment Books will also be on sale during intermission and after the concert.
Lone Star Symphonic Band is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston metropolitan area. Founded in 1993 as the West Houston Concert Band, the band is comprised of musicians from all walks of life and instills the value that music is a life-long event, continuing well beyond high school and college, and awards the Jon K. Fisher Memorial Scholarship to students majoring in Music. In the summer of 2005, the Band entered into a joint venture with Houston Community College – Spring Branch Campus, offering the band as a course for credit to HCC students interested in performing with an ensemble.
The Band is under the direction of Mr. Bob Bryant.
