You're Living Proof, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that assists survivors of domestic violence is hosting a reception at G Gallery on Saturday, October 24th from 6 to 8 pm. The reception will feature the imaginative encaustic design renditions of of artist, Sharon Kyle Kuhn. Founder and CEO of You're Living Proof, Dr. Doris Forte' will sign copies of her book, Squeaky Speaks, A Coloring & Activity Book for Children Surviving Domestic Violence. Proceeds from the sale of the sale of the art and the coloring book benefit The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, a women's shelter in Pasadena, Texas.

The coloring book is a fundamental component of The Squeaky Wheel Project™, a program that helps women and children break the silence surrounding domestic violence. Squeaky Speaks, A Coloring & Activity Book for Children Surviving Domestic Violence tells the story of a little girl named Squeaky, a victim of family violence, who broke her silence. The second half of the book consists of a series of exercises called Stop Shops, which educate women and children about the dynamics of the cycle of family abuse.

The Squeaky Wheel Project™ is hosting a series of receptions and book signings at art galleries throughout Houston to benefit local women’s shelters. Sharon Kyle Kuhn, the featured artist for this event stated, “I recycle bits and pieces of discard items. Some refer to this as reshaping things from the past and giving objects a new life. A generation ago, my father saved notebooks filled with pages of hand written data. Today, I save disks filled with data as well as a variety of film type, and other discarded items. Although they are embedded in molten wax and the data is forever unattainable, we are forced to remember a time of change that has so quickly been forgotten and those things we so quickly threw away.” The artist’s website address is www.sharonkylekuhn.com.
