Dance Houston presents Bellas Danzas-A Latin Dance Festival con Funk (with Funk) at NCI Ripley House in the Historic East End. Dance Houston, presents its 2nd Annual Latin Dance Festival featuring hundreds of colorful and richly choreographed performances at NCI Ripley House located in the Historic East-End, 4410 Navigation, Houston, TX 77011, Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 6:00 PM.

The festival is scheduled to begin at 6PM with the show opening its curtain at 7pm. Dinner, provided by My Fit Foods and included in the price of the ticket, will be served at 6pm, and other festive entertainment will be available for people to enjoy prior to show and during intermission.

Performances will feature some of Houston’s leading dancers and will include traditional and innovative performances highlighting some of the most beautiful and passionate styles of dance from Latin America. There will be something for everyone. Bellas Danzas Latin Dance festival con Funk will include flamenco, ballet folklorico, tango, salsa, merengue, kumbia, cha cha, samba, afro-caribbean. Dance Houston is eager to unveil its “con Funk” programming which has dance companies performing young innovative Latin dances with a mix of street smart. This festival has been designed as casual, fun, exciting and for the entire family; all that is required is that you bring your inner rhythm.

The mission of Dance Houston mission is to increase dance appreciation. The heart of this mission is presenting dance festivals that are for and by the people of Houston. When Andrea Cody, Founder and Executive Director of Dance Houston was asked why a Latin Dance Festival, she shared “While visiting Mexico a few years ago I had the opportunity to attend a street festival where I was able to see, feel and enjoy a variety of Latin dances and a culture of celebration through dance and music. People danced in their seats, the street, and most importantly they celebrated each other, it left me inspired knowing I had experienced authentic flavor, joy, and love! Upon my return to Houston, I looked around for something similar and although I did find festivals with a hint of what I had experienced, I did not find what I know can be a sensational program of “SABOR”. My goal and the goal of Dance Houston is to bring together people to experience Latin dance on one stage and leave with a deeper appreciation of a fusion of culture.”

Bellas Danzas is an opportunity Dance Houston has built to showcase culture through the lens of dance on one stage at an affordable price. Dance Houston is deeply invested in guiding communities to build a deeper relationship with dance through a variety of lenses.
