CONTEXT, a Houston-based chamber-music ensemble, presents CONTEXT: Voice, Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 4pm in Rice University's Duncan Recital Hall. CONTEXT,a Houston based chamber music ensemble, presents a concert of the music of Franz Schubert, who practically invented the idea of the song-cycle: a series of songs presenting a narrative of connected poems.

Franz Schubert was indisputably one of the very greatest composers of songs. As part of his huge compositional output, he wrote over 600 songs (and lived only to the age of 31)!  ‘Die Schöne Müllerin’ (The Lovely Girl of the Mill) is Schubert’s most exuberant cycle, a set of twenty songs that portray the whole emotional range of a young man’s first love.  Also featured on the program, "Two Musical Moments for Piano".

Bass-baritone Timothy Jones returns to join pianist Brian Connelly at the 1825 Graf piano, in CONTEXT’s presentation of this pinnacle of great musical art.

Featuring:  Musicians: Brian Connelly, piano; Timothy Jones, bass-baritone. Performed on 1825 Graf piano.

    Scheduled Program:
    Franz Schubert

    Two Musical Moments, for Piano
‘Die Schöne Müllerin’, for Voice and Piano
